Arithmetic is the simplest form. Pre-pre-algebra.

The arithmetic comment is quite funny.

Personally, both of them are terrible candidates. Markey is so fake and oozes establishment/entitlement. Gomez cannot frame coherent positions on issues and turns on 'politician-mode-question-dodging' when asked about his private sector business. I debated not voting next week, but I see it as my citizenship duty to do so. I still don't know for whom I will vote.

I would vote for Gomez if I were you, he is much more likely to lose if 2014, if you don't like the 2 of them. While if you vote for Markey he will be in there for another 20 years.

Congratulations to the new Senator from Maryland who somehow convinced the voters of Massachusetts that he will represent them. Ed Markey has lived in Chevy Chase, MD for many decades, outspent the GOP "new blood" Gabriel Gomez (they love the minority Hispanics in Massachusetts) 4 to 1, and will only be removed from the Senate on a stretcher. This is a lifetime selection.

He is a lifer of the highest order - was elected during the Ford Administration .... almost straight out of college. Political life is all he knows. He is absolutely perfect for Massachusetts. He is a great Progressive on Energy policy and will be a major cheer leader to the Obama War on Coal and any fossil energy. Think of him when you get your fuel and electric bills - Massachusetts deserves Markey, the Democrats, the Republicans and the so-called Independents. Well done.

The good Liberals in MA had a chance to put a Hispanic into office, but picked another old white Liberal ....gee...I guess all that affirmative action is ok for "the other states", but no in MA.

yep, obviously in some states party line is all that counts. From what I heard and that is all I know, which may not be worth a hill of beans, he didn't even run a decent campaign and didn't set the world on fire during debates. And the libs had a chance to put their money where their mouth is, by electing a minority, but that person would have had to put a D next to his name. I think it is amazing Scott was ever elected. The libs must have all been hung over and forgot to vote. Now, they will make sure it doesn't happen again.

Markey is a hopeless political hack, but perfect for those fools in the People's Republic of Massachusetts.
You know, the same ones who kept Bawney Fwank in office so long, another political giant from the Bay State.
