This was the attitude when Ann Richards got the nod....

It's tough for the DFL to win governor elections when they're always in off-years. We would never elect anything BUT a Democrat if the election was held during presidential years.

Dayton was helped immensely by two things: (1) Tom Emmer is a complete jerk; (2) we had yet another third-party vanity campaign, but this time it was a conservative running. Emmer would have won without Tom Horner in the race, just like Tim Penny and Peter Hutchinson combined to give us eight years of Tim Pawlenty. We're going to need to watch the inevitable independent candidate next year, because it could be perilous for Mark Dayton. I think 2014 is going to be absolutely brutal for Democrats.

Like I said, Minnesota is a blue state. It is not a swing state. But it is also not 'one of the bluest states'. Not in general, and certainly not in Presidential elections.
Any state that is consistently won by less than, say, 55%, will probably receive attention. We didn't get much of it last year, but there will always be some in Minnesota. I expect much more in 2016 than we saw in 2012.

I don't think you are nit picking. I am in agreement with you on this. The OP listed New Mexico in as a swing state. My point is while it was av swing state not that long ago it isn't a swing state anymore.

Sadly, I fully agree with you.

They don't care about swing voters. Their latest strategy is to increase their share (and number) of white voters.

every group had fewer than predicted and you are basing your comment on one election. We all know there was dissatisfaction with the candidates in 2012. Many whites particularly were not happy with Romney and totally unhappy with Obama, especially the college group. They stayed home in 2012. You need to do a little more research then just depending on one source.

After king Clinton, you would think it would have been a Democrat nation by now.
