True. Here is what the GOP problem truly boils down to: North of the Mason Dixon, the party does very poorly where growth is happening, in states with fairly substantial ECs. The Blue Wall, NM & VA start the Dems off within a whisker of the POTUS. The Red Wall starts the GOP off several dozen yards further from the goal line.

Agreed, look if you look at suburban Richmond, you have Henrico County, which to be quite Republican and is noe Democatic. You also have Chesterfield County, which is still Republican, but nowhere nearly as GOP as it once was.
