Virginia does not register voters by political party. Here is the registration form: http://www.sbe.virginia.gov/Files/Fo...pplication.pdf. You cannot indicate "Republican", "Democrat", "Independent" or other on it.

You are correct that Virginia holds open primaries. I, a person who votes Democratic, could vote in a Republican primary if I so wanted.

More entertainment to follow in this mess. It should be interesting to watch as the GOP and the Tea Party go at it. My money is on the establishment Republicans.
Do you have a link for that? I'd love to read what that nitwit had to say about this.

Also, I was watching the Maddow show last night and IIRC (I was beyond tired) she mentioned that basically every elected official in Mississippi had supported Cochran. I highly doubt we'll see those same officials move to institute a policy that would make it easier for McDaniel types to win in the future.

I think it's crazy how anyone would vote for a long term incumbent like this but as I've said before I believe anyone should be able to vote for whoever they want or against whoever they want in the primaries.

It's a good lesson for states that allow real choice in voting. Run as an independent.

They had put out a flier in heavily black neighborhoods basically saying the guy hates black people. Not literally what the flier said but that was the intention. Well it worked. Paint your opponent as racist and anti-black(minority) and you got a chance. Sad really. Dirty, rotten and sad in that that is what it takes for some to win.

And worse that 'some' still eat it up and buy right into it....just like they're expected too.

I have no doubt that Cochran courted black liberals. However, the Democrats had their primary June 3rd. Those who voted June 3rd couldn't vote in the Republican primary too. I'd like to see some actual numbers on just how many waited and then voted in the Republican primary. I don't trust the media stories at all, they love to stir things up.

I vote regularly in the Republican primaries. If I didn't, I'd never be able to vote in the local races. For most local offices, only Republicans run.

Democrats have little chance of winning in Mississippi so the turnout for the Democratic primary was very low. I doubt they were waiting for the GOP primary, though. The Democratic primary was June 3rd, and Cochran didn't begin his outreach to the Democrats until just a few weeks ago.
