In today's news report about the rise of GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, there is this short paragraph:

So what you have these days is an alliance within the GOP of thumpers and fat cats. Strange bedfellows. This alliance was basically established as the "Southern strategy" during the Nixon presidential campaign in 1968.
