What's up with Maryland's governor's race? It seems much too close for this hour. I figured that would be a very easy win for the Dems.
If you look at the map only 3 areas are true democratic, Montgomery co, PG co and Baltimore co. They have the most population. The rest of the state is republican. So it all depends on who shows up to vote. If dems were apathetic then hogan wins.
However, right after Haley appointed him to the seat, there were loads of people claiming that South Carolinians would never vote a black man into the Senate, even if he were a Republican. I thought that was a ridiculous claim and tonight's landslide by Tim Scott proves I was right.
As a resident of Maryland, I can tell you the enthusiasm for Hogan dwarfs that for Brown. Though the national media has barely noticed, most people in MD considered this race a toss-up, at least for the past two weeks or so. Hogan has run a flawless, moderate, economics-focused campaign of "lowering taxes, but not too much" and Brown has tried to attack Hogan and paint him like Ted Cruz, which wasn't necessary. He should've just ignored Hogan and cruised to victory, but instead he made the little-known Hogan a household name, and one that moderate Democrats and blue-collar Dems kind of like.
Over the past week, both the Cook Report and RCP moved this race to the toss-up category. Not even "leans Democrat," pure toss-up. I still think Brown has an edge, but it will be a late night.
Interesting. I'll be honest, haven't followed it at all and was watching the returns scrolling through and was surprised by the results thus far. I'll be watching that race. I think it might be a close one, as you say.
Looks like people could see right through Harry Reid and Obama's strategy of protecting Obama from having to use his veto pen and blaming it on R's
