I was the FIRST ONE at the polls this morning in Western PA - was waiting at the door before 7:00 a.m. Made it to work by 7:15. Quite a few others arrived after me. Cast my vote for Corbett...
Asked at our precinct on how turnout was going. I like to go midday to avoid the crowds. They said it was on par with some of their more popular elections and should hit around 60% turnout. I wish it was more but I thought it was interesting a midterm election would garner so much participation. And we don't even have any really contentious races in our state.
Considering how political charged it's been all year here, I was surprised to see no line at all when I voted this morning. People were coming in steadily, 1 or 2 at a time, though, and I'm sure it will pick up after work this afternoon.
Even so, I expected to see at least a short line. I always vote around 10:00 a.m., and the line in 2012 went all the way down the hall and around the corner. A low turnout won't be good for our incumbent Governor, who faced a stiff challenge this time, and isn't all that popular anymore, after 8 years in office.
In Tennessee, you fill out a form, then show your ID, they check for your name, you sign, again. Then you go and vote, push a little red button and leave.
