This was the system when Thomas Jefferson served as John Adams Vice-President. John Adams refused to give Thomas Jefferson an office. So Thomas Jefferson spent his day in the Senate, undermining the President in every way he could. Nothing forces them to work together. And given the amount of partisanship today, the incentive would be to work against one another. Jefferson's tenure as Vice President was a disaster. That's why we changed how Vice Presidents were selected.

But the way things are now nothing is getting done.

Because right now the Vice President is a stumbling block for getting things done?

The point. What point?

Vice-Presidents have virtually no power. At all.

And Jefferson was the most prominent example of an "each in office" methodology, and that was a complete disaster.

The point being that it didn't work then, and it won't work now.

No, they're not. But that is a very poor reason to institute a change which has been proven to not work.

Something has to change, & soon. I guess we should keep doing nothing.

YOUR proposed solution doesn't address the problem.

It's like if a car's tires keep going flat, and you suggest changing the oil. Changing the oil doesn't address the problem.

I really don't see how rejecting a failed system is the same as doing nothing.

I'd like to see the legal fiction of corporate personhood destroyed. As in not just no, but hell, no. But that is not the thread topic.
