I sure hope you are wrong (bolded). I think nominating Hillary will be a huge mistake. She has zero crossover appeal, and even among the party faithful she does not inspire.
I tend to agree with you. I'm not up on Democrat politics, but my sense is, they might be looking for someone to mount a challenge to Hillary, as her prospects might be rather dismal for election. Just my opinion, though.
I agree Hillary doesn't have much cross over appeal, and I'm concerned about her age and health too. Still, I think she'll win the primary handily. The Clinton machine is a mighty beast. Obama, who literally was the second coming - America's first black president! - just barely beat it. Webb just doesn't have the clout he needs in the party to beat it's best connected member. Webb also might not excite the base as much as Hillary in the general.
Webb could conceivably usher in a new era in politics. His views combine what is most popular in both parties. The problem is that if he was selected to be the candidate, the Rove mafia would find a way to convince Fox News viewers that he's an elitist liberal.

I think the might of the Clinton "machine" is more one of perception than reality. But again, that's just me and I am all in for Webb.

Hah! Have you seen Rove in the media lately? I suspect he may have had some event that has scrambled his brains. Completely inarticulate. Who is afraid of Rove anymore?

If Webb announces, he has my vote over Hillary and just about anyone else I can think of. I don't think enough of my fellow democrats will dump Hill for him but let's see.
