How did it come about that 'Democrat party' was considered an insult. It seems benign compared to 'teabaggers,' 'wingnuts,' 'RWNJ' etc.

Democrats sure can dish it, but sure can't take it. Anyway, I do value the idea of mutual respect, and for me it is always "Democratic party."
