Thanks to Antarez and Cali-Jewel for local and current perspective. Mariner, think you are missing the point of conservative values not being associated with any particular demographic.

I used to work as a drug rep in Little Saigon (Westminster) back in the early 2000s. I think that those Vietnam Cong are the most hypocritical, disingenuous group. They liberally accept government freebies such as SSI, medi-Cal, food stamps, etc, but then turn right around and vote straight Repub. Aren't conservative Repubs against such handouts? They should take them all off the public dole and keep the Viet Cong honest.

Actually, my whole point was that in this case, race had nothing to do with it. I said "It's Orange County", as in "this doesn't surprise me".

You really need to stop flattering yourself, either consciously or subconsciously.

How the Asians Became White

It's on you now, that's according to UCLA in Cali.

If that was true, some knuckle dragger Republican neighbor wouldn't have harassed my Mongolian friend about "never being able to fit in this country"

We agree. That is exactly what I stated, though I was pre-emptive since so many focus on the racial/ethnicity component over if one is conservative, one is conservative. Regardless.

I have always wondered why the Asians lean to the left, now maybe the tide is changing.

Here in WA we have the ballot initiative process where anyone who collects enough signatures can get a legislative proposal on the ballot, which is then voted up or down by voters. I used to do a ton of signature gathering for conservative ballot measures. I always found that blacks and whites both would tend to be willing to listen to my spiel and then either sign or not sign. Asians would almost always have that 'I don't want to get involved with politics' vibe. There were exceptions of course, but it was generally true.

I had a good friend who was born in China, became a lawyer here, and ran for political office. I did a lot of volunteer work for her campaign and when I told her that, she just shrugged. I don't know why it is, but Asians tend to be apolitical. That was 20 years ago, so maybe things are finally changing.

It's mainly the Viet Cong that are militantly right wing. They rival ANY of the old Cuban right fringe of south Florida. I'm not totally sure why. It was Dem administrations that escalated the war against the commies. Pullout of American troops occurred under the Richard Nixon administration (1973). Liberal Dems provided all of their freebies that they leech off of. They would seem like a natural Dem constituency.
