Asian Americans Give New Face to County GOP - Voice of OC | Orange County's Nonprofit Investigative News Agency: County

Quote:
Five high-profile Asian women -- all Republicans -- dominated Orange County races Tuesday....

Supervisor Janet Nguyen, whose family fled Vietnam as refugees, won a seat in the State Senate. Former Congressional aide Young Kim, a South Korean immigrant, and Diamond Bar councilwoman Ling-Ling Chang, a Taiwanese American, were both elected to the State Assembly.

Korean-born Board of Equalization member Michelle Park Steel and Dana Point Mayor Lisa Bartlett, a Japanese-American, also won seats on the Board of Supervisors.

Shawn Steel, former GOP chair, whose wife Michelle Steel (Korean-American)l also won a spot on the OC board of supervisors, writes

The pendulum do swing. I believe the story is still unfolding on the political leaning of our newer immigrant populations. I speak of the Hispanic, the Asian and East Asian immigrants. It will be interesting to see where this goes. Dems were out quickly, but things can and do change, often.

I'm reminded of Ecclesiastes 3:1-15. Or if you are a secularist, we can both be reminded of the The Birds classic, Turn, Turn, Turn.

Michelle Park Steel, while on Equalization proposed and got passed some very burdensome reporting regulations on small businesses that sell at multiple venues. Shawn Steel, was the brain behind the $300,000 media ad campaign in 2012 to insure no conservatives were elected to the Orange County GOP Central Committee.

Yep, not your grandfather's GOP

Pretty sure Orange County has been a conservative area all along. Still, that does not detract from the basic theme of conservative values appealing across demographic lines. That is a fact and one that liberals and progressives do there best to deny and obscure. The fact is frightening to libs/progs. VERY frightening.

That's changing with the massive influx of illegal aliens in the last few decades into places like Santa Ana and Anaheim, their Anchor babies are increasing the amount of Democrats there.

Case in point Loretta Sanchez who ran for Anaheim city council in 94 under her married name of " Bixby" and lost.

So she started using her maiden name of " Sanchez" to pander to uneducated voters who vote along racial lines to succeed in garnering the Hispanic vote. She's now a member of the US House of Representatives.

Your right. But from where I live and what I see in O.C. a lot of people are not changing their values or beliefs for any on person. Certain areas in OC will not vote D ever, we talk believe me.

And of course in areas like Santa Ana and even maybe Garden Grove the demographics of course have changed. The only areas I like in Anaheim are of course Anaheim Hills, where I once lived and Yorba Linda close by.

It's Orange County. That county has always had a reputation for being very conservative, compared to the rest of California.
