You have to start with where the money goes in the Federal budget.

Libertarians don't want to contribute to infrastructure. Unlike American System proponents, New Deal democrats, etc they have ZERO belief that public investment is necessary for growth. Privatize all communications and transportation! They hate the postal service and freeways. It's all UPS and private toll roads for them.

Very few candidates EVER propose spending widely, on all states and regions. Romney is a blue state Republican, and so is Rudy, although Romney has a wider perspective than Rudy (very much a New Yorker). I don't trust an oldster like McCain beyond planning for tomorrow's dinner.

The highway system is extremely important to national security in the event of a crisis or natural disaster. The Federal gov't should be in charge of maintaining those roads. Local streets belong to the state.

Good work scout, now go convince the Reason Foundation. Here's $5 and a pat on the back. If you're not going to make it out alive, give us a call so we record 'man down.'

Unfortunately, the best plan is one that combines a little of everything. Strict adherence to a political ideology will not solve our problems.

Way to generalize beyond belief. Many people with libertarian views believe that local government, and the services that are provided, are valuable. There is a place for the federal government... and that's with interstate commerce, treaties, and defense.

Ron Paul's writings and interviews show a conservative streak to his libertarianism, but the foreign policy position shows serious weakness on the pragmatic side. He's been so adamant about that, I'm not sure if it's to attract some support or if he is truly serious on that. He wants to cut national and international bureaucracy, but what about growth policy beyond cutting taxes and regulations? Can you do more other than speculate or 'believe'?

Apparently less than $425 B gets to the states (8.5 B per state) which is about 17% of the budget... For that, I don't think we need a Federal government to expend 83% of the money to give to political bed partners like big business and foreign governments... thank you, I rather leave the money here... That's not even accounting for the "special" projects that eat billions of dollars every year... thank you, but no thank you..

That's just plain silly. I don't want to be offensive, but if your political acumen doesn't extend to the topic at hand, better to find another board....fashion, perhaps?

I think we need to respect diversity around here more. The Obama supporters may not make any sense, but we should allow them to sit and watch and learn and then vote. In that order.
