Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American woman elected to Congress (1968), and the first major-party black candidate for President of the United States and the first woman to run for the Democratic presidential nomination (1972)
By your own stated standards then , Shirley Chisholm was more of a failure than Mia Love. After making it to congress, she failed every time she sought higher office. Badly.

Set aside your preconceived requirements and let Love at least get settled into the work of congress and watch her term unfold before you make your declarations. Love has done as much if not more than the other freshman congress critters.

BTW, as you are a democrat it makes me wonder why you focus on her race to the exclusion of all else. A few un-admitted issues there?

Well, what your former governor did is an indication of what Oregon politicians do for their state. Something to brag about for you.

Surely, you jest? Your former Gov, Kitzhaber. All the corruption associated with the 'green' business. Just a matter of tiem for the indictments to roll. Corruption knows no bounds. Surely, Dems don't think their pols are immune. Fitzhaber and the 'first lady' of Oregon are as dirty as can be.

Actually corruption in Oregon is something that rarely happens and something we take very seriously when it does. Maybe it would be good for you if your state acted the same.

Your Mia Love love was amusing at first, but now it's just moved on to plain weird.

No politician should be "most loved". She is a public servant. She is paid by us, to represent us. All politicians from the lowliest small town council-person to the president of the United States are nothing more than someone employed by the people, to represent the best interests of the people. NO politician should be treated like a rock star. None of them. Not even Mia.

Actually it is one more example of a continuing problem in your state. The ex governor just happened to get caught. Not that it doesn't happen in other states, but it puts to question your claim that your elected officials are doing such a stellar job.

A black Woman, Rand Paul

You better fear this Conservative. She is going to set an example to follow.

Actually no, that isn't a problem. We don't tolerate corruption here. And no, it doesn't put in question what my representatives are doing because there is no connect to be made to begin with. My representatives are doing what we voted them into office to do. Sorry if you don't like that fact.

Maybe you should worry about your own representatives and what they promised the people of your state.

So don't read the posts. CD has an excellent feature for posters who are 'just plain weird:' the ignore list.

I have explained several times why I see her as a potential conservative star. She is a great communicator and orator, and is evidently steeped in individualism. What other freshmen congress critter, when asked to name her favorite economist, would reply 'Bastiat.' What other congress critter would sum up her political philosophy w/ one word: "agency." One definition of 'agency' offered by Meriam-Webster is "a person or thing through which power is exerted or an end is achieved." So Mia is talking about the capacity of individuals to make decisions for themselves, without the intrusion of Washington DC. She explicated this in a speech when she said (paraphrase) "when government gets bigger, individuals get smaller."

She is the personification of 'happy warrior' and has a background in acting. We had another conservative politico like that a few years ago who did ok.

As a reality check for you, how many times was this law breaking governor elected? Wasn't it four times? And you think his behavior just started when he was caught?

Your judgment on your politicians ethics is highly suspect.

As for my representatives, no they do not always do what I want, but they have broken no laws and removed from office for those actions.
