Palin didn't come into play in 2008 until after she was picked by McCain, which he made that pick at the end of August/beginning of September of 2008. She never ran for any elections in 2012, and typically the threads that were being started were either by people who were still weirdly in love with Palin or people who wanted to laugh at the stupid things she would say.
