GOP’s 2016 Landmine | New York Post

As usual, she states the facts efficiently, no sugar-coating, and she is spot on.

Default The article ignores some key realities

The problem is that Republicans had 8 years under Bush to show us an effective immigration policy, beyond the deportation-fest they so desperately crave. They had 8 more years under President Obama to demonstrate that they can devise, even contribute to, an effective immigration policy beyond their anti-immigration stance. That's 16 years of nothing, except rhetoric and obstruction, slapping Hispanics and Asians in the face 24/7. When Romney expressed that ridiculous idea about "SELF-DEPORTATION", I didn't see Rubio, Bush, or Paul (or any Republican) speaking publicly in opposition. When Romney was talking about representing less than half the country, not one of these three spoke up in opposition (or any Republican).

Chavez ignores the fact that you can't suddenly align yourself with the Democrat's immigration policy right before an election year, just so you can sucker in Hispanic and Latino votes. At least 16 years, Republicans have had ample time to show themselves, and all they did was expose themselves. They're stance on immigration is atrocious.

Also, Hispanics and Asians didn't abandon the GOP in 2012, the GOP NEVER HAD their support, and won't have it in 2016 either. Anytime the foundation of your ideology is built on racism and bigotry, you don't have the support of these groups.

A path like the Rubio plan, though, providing opportunities for citizenship, could set the groundwork for 2020 or beyond POTUS races. I agree it is too late for 2016, as a 180 will not be believed until it becomes the GOP M.O. for many more years.

Rubio is the most moderate GOP candidate so far and the biggest threat to Democrats.
Do Republicans want to hold fast to far right ideals or win the Presidency?

Home run? LOL! What a pack of lies she spews! Being opposed to illegal immigration is not akin to being anti-"immigrant". We have no problem with legal immigrants in reasonable numbers. Rewarding illegal aliens with amnesty and least of all our citizenship is what is anti-American, not enforcing our immigration laws. There has been no plan by most conservatives to mass deport illegal aliens. Just another one of her lies. Removing the incentives for them to remain here and continue to come here will do the trick.

Birthright citizenship was never meant to be bestowed on children of illegal aliens and even if it were most every country does not allow it in today's modern world nor should we since it is costing us dearly and makes a mockery out of our citizenship. Sanchez is nothing but just another ethnocentric, racist Latino desiring to fill this country up with more of her kind and puts them above our immigration laws. She makes me sick!

The last election wasn't lost due to opposing illegal immigration or amnesty. There were only 10 million Hispanics that voted in the last election and they aren't all pro-amnesty either. Compare that to the millions of non-Hispanic voters who want a stop to this nonsense. Rubio is just another panderer thumbing his nose at our immigration laws for votes from a bunch of ethnocentric racists. He nor Cruz nor Bush will win the presidency doing that nor should they.

Home run, as in accurately assessing the issue. This article is dealing with the problems the GOP has had, and will continue to have, by spouting a non-inclusive, small tent message, in a race where 125 million will vote, with a very diverse demographic mix.

46% margin (Latinos went 73-27% Obama) in a 10 mill voting block = a margin of 4.6 million. Obama won by approximately 5 million. We can bet they will grow as % of electorate several times as fast as the overall electorate, for generations to come.

The California legislature is debating a bill to make it a crime for a business to utilize e-verify. I am sure the feds will engage in the same legal challenges that Arizona faced.......NOT. Spread that around the US and see what kind of reaction that engenders.

So the GOP should thumb their noses at our immigration laws to be "inclusive" of the Latino vote? WTH?? Who the hell do Latinos think they are expecting that? Since when are they or any other group of Americans above our laws?

The problem with Ms. Chavez's thoughts is that I just don't think that the Republicans will be able to carry East LA and Spanish Harlem, regardless of any swicheroo on amnesty. In fact, I would expect the new illegal alien voters to go heavily for the Democrats.

The solution to getting those voters is to promise more in the way of government public assistance benefits, and give up on the idea of restraining government spending.

It's not about illegal alien voters though as they can't vote even though there is some evidence that some do. It's about the ethnocentric Latino-citizen vote. The majority of them think their illegal amigos should be above our immigration laws and rewarded for breaking them via an amnesty and possible path to citizenship. That is not in the best interest of most Americans and makes a mockery of our immigration laws. We've already been down that road before and it all it did was encourage more to come here. We need the jobs they are holding and they will continue to be a tax burden to our own citizens.

You are correct though. Even if the GOP were to promise amnesty that still wouldn't sway many Latino voters as the Democrats are already promising that along with them embracing socialism. So what would be the point?
