The white vote will be in the mid 60's in 16.

Not anymore.

She is wrong, but she got a point. The white vote is much more important for Republicans than the hispanic is. 30% more hispanic voters is similar to 4% white voters. Republicans need to appeal to white voters to win the 2016 election.

But what she is wrong about is the immigration issue. As long as Republicans don't copy Democrats immigration policies, they will always be the preferred choice among people who want to secure the border. Hence it makes sense for Republicans to not dismiss immigration reform, because it won't decrease the white vote, and it can lead to more hispanic votes.

There is something else that a lot of people forget about. The main reason Romney lost so many hispanic votes, is because he lost low income voters in general. He lost a lot of low income voters, because of the 47% scandal and the fact he had no compassion for poor people. A better candidate can win more low income voters, and hence can win more hispanic votes.

Methinks Coulter is whistling past the graveyard. The GOP has hitched its wagon to the shrinking demographics of older, white males and religious conservatives while ignoring and often blatantly alienating the growing demographics of younger people, women, religious liberals and the unchurched, Hispanics, blacks, immigrants, etc, and the numbers just don't add up.

Moreover, population shifts have turned formerly red states to, at best, purple, and demographics and right wing political extremism have made it impossible for Republicans to have any hope to take some bigger states like California or New York, even in state elections much less in national ones.

The GOP wins a lot of states, but they don't carry a lot of electoral votes. Texas (38) and Georgia (16) were Romney's biggest electoral wins in 2012 and yielded 54 votes. California brought 55 to Obama. New York and Florida brought 29 votes each to Obama while Romney's next best wins were North Carolina (15) and Indiana (11).

Hispanics have so much more to offer then your run of the mill conservative white male and its beyond me why the GOP is so dumb not to realize that.

You pander to hispanics, the conservative white male will still vote for the GOP regardless.
Exactly, the conservative white males are going to vote GOP no matter what so why pander to them at the expense of losing other possible voters. The oft repeated notion that there is a large amount of ultra conservative voters that are just waiting on the sidelines refusing to vote until a more aggressive, more conservative Republican candidate runs is ridiculous. The more the Republicans pander to their aging white male base, the harder it becomes for them to ever appeal to anything else. Coulter is laying out the best plan to render the GOP a permanent niche, regional party.

Some people might consider Ann a nutjob, but in reality she says a lot of things that some people don't want to hear. But anyway, her point in all of this is that a candidate can still win the election without the Hispanic vote, and she's basing that on Reagan's landslide victory in 1984.

She may be a vile human being... but she's not dumb. And in the short term, I don't think she's entirely wrong. Obama-fatigue is strong these days. And we've been tired of Clinton for decades. If the Republicans were to find a viable and charismatic candidate (that's a mighty big 'if'), and if they successfully ratchet up their xenophobic white base's fears (a tactic they use well and often), then they *might* have a slim chance in 2016. And frankly it may be their *only* chance.

This strategy- should they pursue it- will bite them HARD in the long run. But since when has the GOP thought long-term? Andwhat alternative do they have? They've tried for years to trick blacks and Hispanics into voting GOP with little success (it's hard to convince people to vote for politicians who sneer at their concerns). Voter suppression, racial animosity, fear, paranoia... I expect it to be on full display from the right in 2016. One last hurrah before their fearful, elderly, rural, white racist base gets carted off to the nursing home!

I think this will be their strategy. And my investments in gold mining stocks indicate that I think they will fail. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth in the winter of 2017 as our Dark Queen takes the reigns from the Obamachrist and the third seal is opened. As the waters turn to blood and the price of gold spikes, a hillbilly in the wilderness cries sell! SELL!

So facts turned off low income voters? I guess politicians have to lie to gain votes then? Where do you get the notion that Romney had no compassion for poor people? There is no way for the GOP to gain votes from anyone who relies on government hand outs to survive. That would make them Democrats then.

There is no immigration "reform" is it amnesty plain and simple. Should the GOP stick it to the American worker/taxpayer by advocating for that? I thought we were supposed to be their priority not illegal aliens and their ethnocentric supporters.

Where in the world are you people getting the notion that the GOP is only appealing to aging white males? I swear some of these idiotic comments make me sick!

The average Fox News viewer - which functions as the defacto marketing arm of the Republican party - is a 68 year old white male. That is the GOP base, like it or not.

WTH does the race or age of a newscaster have to do with anything? There are young females and minorities on Fox also. BS! that the GOP base is mostly old white males but even if that were true I guess there is something wrong with that but for the majority of minorities to watch CNN and other left leaning channels? Your underlying contempt for older white males comes shining through along with many others in here. It completely disgusts me.

interestingly there are currently two Hispanic governors among the 50 states. Both are conservative Republicans.
