wrong.

i specifically stated IF it turned out that trump was worth $4billion as forbes ( not time ) had estimated then his $8.7billion claim would have been a lie. here's my exact quote:

there is one question i have about the disclosure ( haven't seen it yet), what is the value being assigned to the brand name "trump" and is that value coming from trump himself or an independent third party? may not be listed.

Trump Exaggerating His Net Worth (By 100%) In Presidential Bid - Forbes

Forbes: Trump Exaggerating His Net Worth (By 100%) In Presidential Bid

Campaign exaggerations are as much a part of politics as kissing babies. In announcing his bid for the Republican presidential nomination this morning, Donald Trump started with what Forbes believes is a whopper. He claimed his net worth was nearly $9 billion. We figure it’s closer to $4 billion — $4.1 billion to be exact.
...
Real estate licensing deals, brand, and branded developments: $3.3 billion (Trump); $253 million (Forbes)
We value the Trump brand at $125 million. Trump apparently thinks that if he spun-out these kind of deals and his good name into a separate company, he’d net over $3 billion for it. Good luck with that.

it's this discrepancy that has me curious who ( if anyone ) assigned a monetary value to the brand.

As Trump Files FEC Disclosure, He Raises Claimed Net Worth To $10 Billion; Forbes Disagrees - Forbes

Forbes update: Forbes continues to disagree with Trump about his net worth. In fact, we’ve lowered our valuation of the real estate tycoon from $4.1 billion to $4 billion since his controversial remarks about Mexican immigrants during his campaign launch speech, which led to the end of his business deals with NBCUniversal, Univision, Serta Mattresses, and Macy's M +7.91%, as well as PVH PVH -0.83% Corp. and Perfumania, the manufacturers of his menswear line and fragrances, respectively. In the wake of these developments, we have dropped the value of his brand to zero (previously, we pegged it at $125 million).

Don't confuse what someone has with what they're worth.

It's what Trump said he was "worth". Several publications are already taking him to task for it. Talk to Trump

the FEC has up to 30 days to make the filing public and the trump campaign didn't release any copies to the press so it could be awhile before we see any investigation on the breakdown of the numbers.
