August 10, 2015 Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry's campaign team in South Carolina is no longer being paid by his presidential campaign, National Journal has learned. "Pay is only one reason people do this," Katon Dawson, Perry's South Carolina state director, said in an interview. "We'll be able to live off the land for a while." It is not clear if or when paychecks will start backing up for Perry's team in South Carolina. Dawson said that Perry staffers in the state "have been paid up to two weeks ago." Dawson said core members of Team Perry, including himself, will continue to work, even if unpaid. He said Walter Whetsell and Le Frye, two top Perry operatives in the state, are among those still working. "We'll do it whether there's pay or no pay," Dawson said. In addition to the pay freeze, at least one Perry staffer was let go last week. Dawson said that move was unrelated to any "financial discomfort."
Perry, who has struggled to gain traction in his second presidential run, has stopped paying his staff at the national headquarters in Austin as well as in the early caucus and primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, according to a Republican familiar with the Perry campaign who demanded anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
Remember back in 2011 when Rick Perry was gearing up his run for President, and Republicans were absolutely convinced he was going to easily dispatch Romney in the primaries and then destroy Presidet Obama in the general election?
Hilarious! Rick Perry, who followed up a 5th-place finish in Iowa with a 6th-place showing in New Hampshire, and then packed it in, supposedly had everyone trembling in abject terror. Ah, the power of wishful thinking...
We'll miss you, Rick - you were one of the more entertaining contestants on my favorite reality show, Republican Apprentice. The only question remaining is who will get the five Perry supporters who are now up for grabs?
As several other posters have said, the only person who thought Rick Perry was in is Rick Perry.
Rick Perry, thank you for seeing the light and no longer wasting your time and ours. Please tell your friends Ben, Jim, Goergei, Lindsey, Chris, Carly, Mike, Ted, Bobby, Rand, Rick and whoever else I've missed to join you.
If your name is not Jeb, Marco, Scott, Donald or John Kasich (long shot), quit now while you're behind. No need to further embarrass yourself.
Just want to point out Perry hasn't dropped out, although no longer paying his campaign staff in one if the early states is certainly a sign dropping out might not be far behind.
He may not be done yet. It appears that some of his Super PAC supporters are going to step in to make up the $$ shortfall
Here's the original reporting.
"Rick Perry faces a financial crisis that threatens to short-circuit his comeback candidacy months before the election begins." Perry's "campaign has stopped paying its own advisers. … The shockingly early financial implosion … is a potentially crippling blow for a candidate who ... has found little traction in the polls. … [W]hile his official campaign has been reduced a volunteer operation, a trio of independent pro-Perry super PACs remains well-heeled, making it less likely Perry will be forced to exit from the race entirely. … It's not clear if or when another round of actual Perry campaign paychecks will be issued." (National Journal)
He's the candidate all women want. After that mental masterbation is over, he has to move on. There are so many better candidates out there and running.
Jindal: excellent, sharp, articulate but, Indian. Won't sell. Shame, he should be on anyone's short list.
Gilmore: very, very good. Experienced, able to be a moderate if necessary. Good with foreign issues
Fiorina: best business person running. She has dealt with foreign powers for decades. She is one of the top 2
Huckabee: finally an honest man who truly cares about you. And he can't win but, compared to Perry? Please
Pataki: excellent and anyone who can be a republican and win in NY??? He's catholic so, probably can't win because quite a few love to hate the Catholics. Even if they are one out of 4-5 walking the planet. Besides, the last one was killed and he was the only one that became president.
Graham: came up the hard way and is open. Appeals to many. Weak close though
Santorum: sharp. Aggressive, no BS. Problem, sharp, aggressive, no BS. Scary. Goldwater all over again
Kasich: excellent. Moderate. Can work with democrats. Honest guy. Good choice. Pro business
Walker: dark horse. He keeps defeating the democrats no matter how hard the media and left tries to kill him
Bush: not as good as Bush 1.0 but better than Bush 2.0. Unfortunately, that last name and older brother kills his chances.
Perry? Go back to Austin and continue to be macho. Any tough question will kill him off.
