Probably because he's the designated commander in chief. He tells then what to do and they salute and carry out orders. That's the way it's always been done in the military.

I have to say, my first instinct was to agree with Trump.
My first instinct was to put aside the opinion of the general.

Certainly, before we could do such a thing, we would have to get at least China on board with the idea. We would have to borrow from them, and give assurances that they would benefit from the US having control of that oil. Meaning American blood and treasure goes to benefit the Chinese, again.

Have to go with "I'm not sure". It sounds like a strategy that could be loaded with unintended consequences.
