Bernie Sanders and Pope Francis Political Views

After all their rhetoric is quite similar!
Will he endorse Sanders speaking in Spanish or Italian?
What will he say about Trump. I bet he ignores Trump.
The world of liberals exist only in theory. Reality is incomprehensible.

Of course he's not. He's just going to echo many of Sanders' stances because he happens to believe many of the same things Sanders has been talking about for years. Rightwing Christians are not going to like it much, but that's only going to make his visit that much more enjoyable.

Pope Francis life began in the Argentina of the fascist Juan Domingo Peron much like another young man Ernesto Guevera. One chose to become a Jesuit. the other went to Mexico where he met Fidel Castro. Today Pope Francis paid a house visit to Fidel and held a mass in the Plaza de la Revolucion where in the background is a monument to Che as well as Karl Marx, Jose Marti , Vladimir Lenin and to the Ayatollah Khomeini. Francis as head of Argentina's Jesuits then as Archbishop of Argentina has had to guide the Church through the Dirty war conducted by the Military dictators that run Argentina in the 70s and 80's (some of his Jesuit colleagues were among the Disappeared), The return of the Peronists to power in the 1990s. So this Pope like Karol Woitya (Saint John-Paul II) knows how to navigate in dangerous shark infested political waters and live to tell the tale. Che Guevera died in 1967!

American political waters are more like Guppy infested political waters.

5. Jesuits are free-thinking? What does that mean? Also what’s the poverty vow? Does that mean Jesuits are Socialists?!?

The Jesuits encourage toleration for other religions, teach other theology in their institutions, and also believe in free education for all. This emphasis on free-thinking—and especially the order’s opposition to opulent riches—has some calling them out as the founders of Socialism. Pope John Paul II, for instance, denounced some Jesuits in Latin America for their emphasis on liberation theology, which is focused on the liberation of oppressed people (you may have heard of a form of it from Jeremiah Wright, supposedly a believer in liberation theology, or from Glenn Beck, who says liberation theology has “completely perverted Christianity”), particularly of the poor from their rich oppressors. But perhaps the most damning link to socialism comes from Fidel Castro—the former Cuban dictator studied under the Jesuits for 12 years, although Castro later forced his former teachers to leave in 1961.

Most right-wingers/(especially the evangelicals) in America follow their own brand of "Christianity" - the Church of Reagan / Supply-side Christianity.

Christianity has been distorted beyond recognition in America by false prophets such as the 500 Club guy Pat Robertson, Glenn Beck, et al.

If the founders wanted our nation to be a Christian nation, they would have the bible as the rule of the land. But no, they came up with a separate constitution to ensure that we don't become another Saudi Arabia or Iran. Yet the evangelicals keep on trying to make the Christian Sharia Law the law of the land.

Francis grew up around the rancid political culture of Peronist populism, the sterile redistributionism that has reduced his Argentina from the world's 14th highest per-capita GDP in 1900 to 63rd today.

why would anybody listen to the Pope on economics?

Jesus would have been a Democrat and a socialistic one at that. A pro-life and homophobic one, but still. .....

Jesus is about love, not so called "tough love" that the people who want to cut people off disability and ebt pretend that they follow merely because they need a rationalization for being selfish narcissists.

I swear, 3/4 of the "Christians" who post here are only in it for the homophobic and having control over women.

The terms "social conservative" and "Christian" are diametrically opposed on all but the 2 issues above.
