I'm getting ready to go to the polls, if I am independent, and I write in a democrat or republican name, will it count for that candidate in his/her quest to win the primary?

Right now, Democratic delegates are not allowed to vote at the Democratic Convention. So if you vote for a Democrat, no, it will not help aside from media exposure.

Nope. Republican primary is closed. You must be a Republican to vote.

However, due to the closed primary in Florida, where only registered Republican voters are allowed to cast ballots, McCain's prevalence among independent voters would be hampered.
