They didn't address what percent of people start college and then drop out. This would then become another burden on the taxpayers.
This clearly should be a state issue and Washington should butt out. If it works at the state level, other states will follow, if it doesn't it will be one less boondoggle in Washington.
He stated it would be a Tax on Wall Street so please don't hide that fact. Since Wall Streey has enjoyed all the profits and tax breaks plus they helped cause the collapse it time to pay back the taxpayers. Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country

Do you somehow think that if college is free there is going to be some huge increase in available jobs to accommodate the huge influx of grads that would be entering the marketplace every year?

If you put a tiny transaction charge on all stock market trades, like a quarter of a penny it would bring in billions and it just might slow down high frequency trading which has really gotten out of control
Actually no it wouldn't. One other country tried that, I forget which, but 1/2 their stock trades left the country and moved to UK.. Furthermore, with lower stock trades, you'd get LESS tax revenues, because every transaction results in a "profit" to either the buyer, or the seller, and thus you'd lose the capital gains revenues.
Better to set a high bar than to take the LOW ROAD that Republicans prefer.
