the pools are all over the place. Some people only want to believe the poll that shows his/her candidate doig the best. Others realize all polls have some credibility but none should be taken too seriously.
I do think, this is probably a year that will go down in history as one of the most unusual presidential year ever or close. It certainly is interesting if nothing else. I can see it now, the kids 50 years from now being taught about the election of 2016.

If this is indeed unique and not a glimmer of future elections? There are many issues at stake right now from campaign finance to redefining the Parties. It is hard to say how it will all play out. People, the voters, want change.
Any wonder that the black man is in last place in South Carolina?
You mean in the state with the only black senator, who currently enjoys an 80+% approval rating? You need to find a different attribute to explain his current standing.
