Great Idea!! But the receipt would not have the name of the candidate you voted for. It would have a certain barcode. Binary Numbers, which only a classified employee can view who you voted for..
All though this would have its fair share of problems, but I like the option!! Its worth it.

NJ Governor unable to vote.
The NJ governor is an idiot anyway, so who cares.
Now seriously, the voting machine problem issue is totally media-driven. I have been voting for years and have lived in many different states and this is all bull.
This is just a trick by some political parties to get these re-counts until the results are altered to be the way they want it. This happen in Washington State back in 2004 when they did so many recounts, the results changed for the Democrats.
I live din FL during the whole issue with the machinaes out there. Palm Beach County and the "hanging chads" were caused by that county's failure to update their machines. It is a mostly liberal county. They should ensure their voters get their fair share. But they prefer to have these machines that don't work so they can alter electoral results and create new votes in the end and change people's votes based on "voter intent". I say if you are too stupid to ask for another ballot if you make a mistake, then you should not vote at all.

Maybe it's you.
I know a lot of this is media driven, but I really don't like the idea of casting a ballot on a machine that has no way of proving I voted the way I did. A receipt would be nice.
