Date: September 21, 1980
Location: Baltimore, MD
Site: Baltimore Convention Center
Participants: Ronald Reagan (R), John Anderson (Independent)
Moderator: Bill Moyers, PBS
...
HIGHLIGHTS: The news in 1980 was Carter not participating in the first general election debate because of the presence of Independent candidate John Anderson, and Reagan out-performing Carter in the second debate (in which Anderson did not participate). Carter refused to take part in the debate...
Oh the hypocrisy of the left...it continues.
More for those in liberal land who think Trump is the only one to ever get upset at moderators:
At the beginning of the second debate of the 1980 primaries, the campaigns fought over the format—at Reagan’s instigation. As the candidates and operatives clashed, the moderator ordered Reagan’s sound cut off. Reagan grew angry at what he perceived as a slight against him, and responded forcefully with the now famous line, “I am paying for this microphone.” The crowd reacted with uproarious applause, and Reagan locked up the nomination.
Why did Reagan’s remark stick so powerfully for Republicans? It was the type of off the cuff moment that voters like to think captures the essence of a candidate. Those can often be the most powerful and damaging parts of campaigns—consider Mitt Romney’s $10,000 bet, or his declaration that “I’m running for office for Pete’s sake!” Not only did it provide an opportunity for voters to see the “real” Reagan, it tapped into the ideology Reagan was advocating and connected with voters on a deeper level. Conservative voters, angry at what they perceived as bloated government spending, wanted to reclaim ownership of how their tax dollars were spent.
I'll bet that Trump shows up for the debate, after all his posturing.
It'll pain him not to be the center of attention. I bet his twitter account with will be busy mocking, criticizing his opponents during and after the debate. Wouldn't be surprised if he finds himself on CNN or MSNBC immediately after the debate commenting.
Not unlike what the Democrats did to Palin - but then again Dems get a pass right?? Go cry me a river and instead of continually bashing a candidate you are scared of - get off your butt and campaign so the one you do support wins. If people on this board who support a candidate worked for that candidate's campaign as much as they sit on here - we may actually have some decent candidates running.
Do we forget that Obama, Hillary and Edwards both skipped the Fox debate in 2007? You people have short memories when it concerns your own!
No, we haven't forgotten. But, what do all three have in common? They are Democrats. On second thought, makes sense. Trump is really a Democrat pretending to be a Republican.

Listen carefully, folks. Do you hear it? It's the sound of desperation. It's going to grow louder and louder in the coming months to the point where it will be deafening as the establishment goes through its death throws. You'd be smart to invest in some earplugs. The Trump Express has left the station, and there's no stopping this train! Either get on board or get the hell out of the way!

Train analogy? Not a fan. Who uses trains anymore? I bet 99% of Americans have never been on a train.
