When I think of a socialist, I think of higher taxes and more intrusive centralized government.

Bernie has openly stated he's a socialist. So, why do you support someone who openly states he will raise your taxes and expand government?

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you're talking about.
Democrats have mostly been socialists since F.D.R.

He would not get 90% of what he wanted, but he might reverse the very dangerous trend toward wealth and influence concentration that we have seen over the last few decades. (I don't support Bernie just yet, but I am starting to lean).

Lightbulb For those who support Bernie. Why do you want a socialist for president?

At present, we have socialism only for the wealthiest Americans. Statistics show that it's working very well for them.

Why not for the rest of us?

"Socialist" is just a label. Heck, Bernie could have called himself a capitalist and no one would think anything of it. Bernie is opposed to government ownership of means of production, which is what real socialism is. Bernie, however, supports shared benefits administration (i.e. healthcare, paid family leave, free college tuition). It's a little socialism, but it's not full fledged socialism.

Besides, former presidents such as FDR, Eisenhower and LBJ were all similar to Bernie. It'll be fine.

Look at his policies rather than get hung up on the "socialist" label. What is he proposing that is bad for America? Tax the people and use it to fund the government isn't a new concept, Bernie is just suggesting we change what is being funded. The big issues that make me lean toward him are 1) Getting money out of politics by reversing Citizens United 2) Single payer healthcare, IMO the smart way to do healthcare and remove profiteering 3) and addressing income inequality through closing tax loopholes and laws that favor big business which are far more dangerous to the economy long term than a small tax increase

Don't treat socialism like a dirty word since we already have many socialist policies and programs in this country (public education, roads, police/fire protection, and social security just to name a few) but rather take a look at the policies and decide if they are something you agree with or not.

Nearly everyone supports socialism when the benefits come their way.

no, thats not what happens.. Obama promised to do that as well

Only capitalism and competition reverses the trend, not legislation which limits these..

People who have failed at life are looking to take from people who have worked hard and made it. It's pretty simple really. Unfortunately, in this day and age, there are a lot of people that are failing.

The millennials are used to getting trophies just for showing up, and are confused when they become adults and suck at life. Now they want their trophy, and Bernie is offering them one.
