Many I have talked with recently have expressed feelings that most of the Candidates are too negative, moreover, they respond with debasing comments more expected in a Teamster debate. Not at all what we expect from a president, I said, “they are acting like little nasty boys”. When a friend remarked, “and Hillary’” I responded, “she seems the most contained.”
It appears persons of retirement age are sticking to their political parties, yet there is a general feeling of gloom!
Bob Shaffer was disappointed with candidate comments. About Donald Trump he has said. “"He's a master showman who has this impeccable timing and this ability to sort of control the conversation."
Now Bob is disgusted with his harsh responses to attacks by the other candidates.
The events that go by the name of "presidential debates" these days are not debates at all, and those participating in them get less presidential every cycle.
I truly don't remember them being like this when they were run by the League of Women Voters. Maybe I'm just suffering from the it-was-better-in-my-day syndrome...

Well I feel the same. I see it as having become worse with the last Bush election. Before this, the Nixon election following LBJ not running.
The highlight of last night's "debate" was when Cruz, Rubio and Trump were yelling at the same time and you couldn't understand a word.
This was what bothered Bob Shaffer. Trump was not being the master communicator in control, he was brought down by the tactics of Rubio and Cruz, it was a disgusting ploy for all the candidates.
What I watched was a barroom argument among 3 drunks with a couple of hangers on.
Except there was no bar, and I don't think any of them were drunk.
Maybe they should have been drunk- it might have made a better 'debate' if they had all had a few beforehand. They sure didn't represent their party very well.
Or maybe they did. Too well.
