Cruz is a statesman, not a politician. He defends the people and the Constitution above all else. He doesn't play ball and side with liberal Democrats and Obama as many establishment Republicans will because they are getting something out of it on the side. Cruz calls them out and exposes them for the RINO frauds they are. Thats why nobody likes him, he hates the Washington establishment. Rubio fits right in with them though.

Well...here is my guess...Cruz is disliked by many senators and reps, so that gets spun to say that he isn't part of the establishment. Never mind that he has mega-rich donors that he is beholden to just like Rubio.

Rubio joined with establishment republicans (McCain, Graham, Flake) and establishment democrats, (Schumer, Menendez, Durbin and Bennett), to form the gang of eight, in an effort to pass a far reaching Amnesty bill that was supported by the democrats, but not by the republicans.

Rubio pushed the Amnesty bill after running on Tea Party support that he would defend against Amnesty.

Cruz has not given in to the establishment Republicans on issues like Amnesty or Obamacare. He has defied McConnell and McCain who told him to sit down and shut up about these issues. As a junior senator, the establishment expect him to "go along, to get along" in order to be rewarded with better committee appointments and have the establishment give him plum assignments like giving the GOP rebuttal to the SOTU address (which Rubio has done),

Cruz refused to back down on defunding Obamacare and took to the senate floor for 21 hours to explain just how bad Obamacare is and how it would hurt the majority of people in America. He was right. He also refused to sit down and shut up about Amnesty and pushed his own Poison Pill Amendment that essentially killed the Gang of 8 Amnesty bill.

Cruz has called out McConnell on the Senate floor for lying to the Senators about standing up to Obama on a key issue, while making back room deals with democrats all along.

THAT is why Cruz is hated by the establishment. He is not swayed from his principles or the promises to his constituents by the lure of more power in DC and the promise of getting in with the in crowd.

Cruz IS "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington", and the establishment hate the fact that he tells the truth to his constituents and to the press.

You shouldn't guess.

I'm not even much of a Cruz fan but I totally agree he isn't establishment and is hated by the establishment.

At least Cruz has some bite to him where Rubio is a puppy that does what others tell him to do. Cruz will stick to his principles where Rubio will not.

Very good question and some good answers.

I just want to add that just because you are not well liked, doesn't mean you are not part of the establishment.

Somebody said that The "establishment" is not a single ideological mass; it is the building that houses the bumper cars. Just because you're ramming your car against another part of the establishment doesn't mean you're not establishment, too.

Like Trump is part of New York real estate establishment, but he is not washington or republican party establishment.
