I usually only comment on the region I'm in, because this is a very large country and I don't follow political races and voting trends in the northern Rockies, the Pacific North-West, the South West, etc.
Having said that I can predict with a degree of certainty that the populous Mid Atlantic states where I live - that includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and DC will not go for Cruz. The same goes for all of New England.
I'm told the only "swing" states that really matter - because of their population size - are Florida and Ohio.
Cruz will get Republicans to vote for him just like he is getting their endorsements now. He does not have the fear factor that Trump does, so Hillary people will be much harder to motivate to come to the polls. Cruz probably won't win a single swing state, but he will come closer than Trump and won't necessarily lose the Senate in the process.
Yeah but they are mostly awful candidates. I saw a lot of posters on different boards stating that the GOP had a deep bench running for POTUS. The bench was comparable to that of the Washington Generals.
I think Cruz could carry the Romney 2012 states plus Florida and Ohio in a favorable scenario for his party, which would leave him at 253 electoral votes - not enough to win. All the other states voted for Obama in 2012 by at least a 5% margin, and his hard core social conservatism and history of extremely partisan behavior in the Senate would be a difficult sell to the electorate.
However unlike Trump, I don't think he would have any problem locking down Utah for the Republicans.

You forget that Trump has Independents and Dems voting for him. Cruz will not get those Independents and Dems. AND Cruz will not get a majority of Republicans who are voting for Trump.
Cruz is not going to be the president. End of story.

If Cruz becomes the nominee it won't take long for the Democratic machine to generate a 'fear factor' of Cruz that eclipses anything Trump generates now.

If you think, for one moment, that Cruz is not equally as scary as Trump to Dems, you should think again...Cruz may be even scarier...
Cruz is dragging the GOP right back into the 'Moral Majority' movement of the early 90's that turned off many in the GOP and all Dems...

If thats true, why did Trump do so poorly against them too then? If he's so popular, he should have been getting 40% of the vote and now well over 50% with only him, Cruz and Kasich, yet he can't even hit 50%. Cruz just got 69% in Utah. Trump is a joke, more people are voting against him than for him.
