"Voters from all walks of life were confused by the use of the word “independent” in the party’s name, according to The Times analysis.

"Residents of rural and urban communities, students and business owners and top Hollywood celebrities with known Democratic leanings — including Sugar Ray Leonard, Demi Moore and Emma Stone — were among those who believed they were declaring that they preferred no party affiliation when they checked the box for the American Independent Party."

Are you an independent voter? You aren't if you checked this box - Los Angeles Times

actors/actresses/athletes all make way too much money. As you can see they aren't very smart.

"believed they were declaring that they preferred no party affiliation when they checked the box for the American Independent Party."

I don't see how anyone could be confused, it clearly says American Independent Party.

The word independent is what confused them.. they should have put on the ballot no party affiliation.

At least there is still plenty of time to fix it and change their registration prior to the primary. I hope that there is lots and lots of publicity about it.

Same here. If they glanced just to the right, there's a box clearly stating "No, I do not want to be affiliated with a political party."

They still have time to fix it though. They're lucky they didn't make this careless error in New York, or they'd be stuck with it.

From what we have read and heard it sounds like a lot of them were entertainers. I don't know if I feel sorry for them or have problems understanding why they didn't know the difference?
