According to this Reuters/Ipsos poll only 6% of Americans would vote Trump because they like him as a person, a staunch 47% would pick him because they don't wanna see Hillary in the White House and another 43 for his political ideas.
In other words most people don't give a damn about his gaffes and politically uncorrect talk.

Stupid, low information voters at their finest. You dont vote for a candidate because you dislike the other candidate more. This isn't a popularity contest of some reality show
