Scandinavia doesn't have the huge issue of working poor that we have in America, either. Raise the wages and salaries of American workers and then come back with your big sales tax proposal that favors the wealthy.
You can't compare Scandinavia with the USA. they are not huge industrial countries, they are smaller than many of our states, they live a totally different life and they are taxed to death. We are also not socialistic; we are a capitalistic country.

Not really.
We have socialism for the wealthy and capitalism for the rest of us.
I believe that any tax reform package that lowers income taxes, cuts the corporate tax, and reduces capital gains taxes and makes the code simpler, fairer, and flatter makes sense be it reform, a flat tax, or the Fair Tax.
If I personally had to choose, I would pick the Fair Tax because it lowers taxes on everyone, especially the middle class and the working poor. It also taxes what you spend above the poverty level as opposed to what you earn. The income tax, the corporate tax, and the capital gains tax being eliminated would create jobs and special interest loopholes would be eliminated.
On taxes, the choice is between one candidate who wants to increase taxes on the wealthy and businesses (Hillary Clinton), one candidate who once backed the largest tax increase in history before proposing the largest tax cut in history before saying his tax plan was negotiable before saying it was only negotiable based on the terms he laid out (Trump) and a candidate who wants to eliminate those taxes which place a burden on economic activity and replace it with something that takes in the same revenue as the current system (Johnson).
What a bunch of nonsense designed to shift the tax burden onto the poor and middle class.
And no, taxes are the price of a civilized society. You can scream about "OMG taxes are theft!" All the while being perfectly willing to use all of the resulting benefits of them.
The problem with the status quo is that it is so unbelievably complicated and so expensive to run that it takes an army of professionals just to figure out how much Americans owe in taxes and a counterbalancing army of professionals to help Americans pay the absolute minimum possible in taxes.
Taxes are necessary. Nobody is saying they aren't. But the tax system we have currently is massively inefficient. There is only one reason to keep the tax system we have. Democrats want to punish the wealthy for being wealthy. The whole of American citizens must pay the price so that Dems can exact vengeance on the rich -- and nevermind all the low to middle class Americans who would be better off with a simplified tax system. It's all about priorities, right?
The flat tax will not stop the special interests. They will lobby and many will succeed in getting their product or service exempt from that tax just like they lobby and succeed in getting special treatment under the income and corporate tax systems.

It's a theory. Another theory is that a libertarian would call them out publicly on their attempt to crony up to the DC establishment and prevent special interest/lobbyists from having an impact.

Today’s federal tax code does all the wrong things. It penalizes productivity, savings and investment, while rewarding inefficiency and designating winners and losers according to political whim. For far too long, tax laws have been used not just as a means to collect needed revenues, but as a weapon with which to manipulate our behavior, create and destroy industries and fulfill politicians’ dreams of social engineering. The result is a tax code that is more than 70,000 pages long enforced by a government agency with almost 100,000 employees.
Makes a lot of common sense, though the high priests and priestesses of social control object with the emotional argument that a flat sales tax is punitive to low income and poor people. But that can be countered logically by exemptions to such basics as food and clothing, but they don't accept logic.
My problem with so-called Libertarians is they go overboard with their childish ideology and are careless on law-and-order issues.
To gain more traction, they must take and sustain realistic, clear and tough stances on such issues as legality, borders, trade, defense and policing.
Those come first. Then, sure, all the social liberties.
Food from a grocery store and rent would be exempt.
The prebates would be adjusted so that the typical family living in poverty would end up not paying a penny in, but instead make a small amount.
A national sales tax can be even more progressive than our current system.
ROTFLMAO. Do you believe in the tooth fairy and Easter bunny, too?
