There is a huge upside for Trump. Rather than try and knock down Bernie he could actually show where he and Bernie are closer in beliefs than Bernie and Hillary.
It could have the effect of getting some Bernie supporters on Trumps side. He could agree with Sanders on the trade deals. He could agree with him on the need to dismantle Obamacare. Dang, if he agreed even in part with Sanders on the wars it would be a major blow to Hillary. To paint her as the war candidate would be a big blow.
It would be a big gain for Sanders also when he shows he is not afraid to go up against Trump when that is the only real argument Hillary supporters have against him.
Yes, Trump would likely turn it up a notch if Sanders would somehow become the nominee but this could be a real game changer and boost for both Sanders and Trump. It goes to show how out of touch Hillary is to have allowed it to be possible.
I'll respectfully disagree. There is no upside for Trump in this debate, only for Bernie giving him tons of free publicity which he needs but Trump doesn't. Bernie supports will end up hating Trump when they see Trump bashing him consistently in a debate.

Sanders has been doing this his entire life practically. He isn't going to crumble. Those who take positions they don't really believe in are the ones who crumble.
Bernie and Trump are polar opposites when it comes to illegal immigration. If they debate, this will become quite apparent.

As I said, *If* that is what he does. I'm betting he doesn't. He has no reason to at this point. His entire focus should be on harming Hillary and I believe it will be.

When Trump says he will deport all the illegals, no one believes (including him) that he can do that. Sanders doesn't take that position so no, it would not apply to Sanders.
Trump has even backed away from that position now that he has things wrapped up.
