Trump has fallen to under 40% in all the recent polls and then last night his rally in Virginia was a total bust with many more empty than filled seats. One projection was that only 2000 attended in a 12,000 capacity venue. Another said it was only about 1/3 filled.

Trump held a rally Friday night at the Richmond Coliseum, a downtown sports arena that has a capacity of nearly 12,000. But as the presumptive Republican presidential nominee took the stage, the arena featured section upon section of empty seats and was no more than a third full.

Trump is a media event as much as a candidate. From Cheers to American Idol, as much as we love them, they all grow stale in time and go away. I think we are seeing that with Trump and that his crowds and his polls will both continue to dwindle with the passage of time.

Peak Trump? Such wishful thinking...it's only June! Most of America won't start paying serious attention to this race till after the summer, and that's plenty of time for Trump to reboot his image.

Well, using Trump math, that means there were actually 200,000 people there.

Whoa, look at all those empty seats. The majority of that stadium is empty:

Perhaps his bigoted rant against an American of Mexican descent finally pierced the Trump illusion bubble.

He needs to refresh his act, I think. The media keeps showing his rallies and they are all the same. The same rants, the same tossing of a protester, etc. If you have seen/heard one you have seen/heard them all. There's nothing new. A candidate who depends on the sizzle far more than the steak has to keep changing it to keep it interesting.

If you read between the lines of what Trump said about the crowd, he does have the realization support is waning. He made a comment about how he just hastily put the event together last minute. That is narcissist code for nobody is here, and I can't make my ususal YUUUUUGE support claims. Candidates for president do not just last minute decide to give a speech and expend all the resources and finances it takes to make it happen. Its not a spur of the moment dinner party. There are many factors involved, and these events are extensively planned and coordinated.

I think Trump is so bombastic that we will reach a point where no one can stand the sight or sound of him. Remember when Paris Hilton was a thing?

You keep telling us that Trump has peaked, but you keep being wrong.

What we haven't seen, is how far down Hillary will go.

Just wait until the email/server scandal breaks.

Drumpf had a self-inflicted bad week, is all. It's still 5 months til the election and both candidates will have ups and downs between now and then.

What many sees as "gaffes" are actually widely held notions among his followers.

Haha - I saw where MSNBC tried to make a story about empty seats. When asked about a rather short line outside a Trump event, the field reporter said almost all Trump events are filled to maximum capacity. The host then quickly changed to another subject. I think she was hoping to discuss how people aren't coming to see Trump.

Yeah, he was supposed to pivot 3 months ago as well, then 2 months ago, then a 1 ago. His supporters keep talking about how he "Has time" and "Will act more Presidential soon" The problem is that he has yet to do so and he really doesn't have much time left. Contrary to popular belief people start paying serious attention once nominees wrap up the election. Which means he has already damaged himself among the general electorate.
You also have to remember that Trump is a well known and outspoken public figure. As such, most people already have an opinion of him. So just like Clinton, most people either like him or hate him. He doesn't have as much wiggle room as a traditional Presidential candidate usually does, and has done himself no great service with his comments either.

Does, that mean he can't recover at this point? My feeling is that he still has a finite amount of [time to do so. However, the fact that he has engaged in this behavior for a solid 8 months and has a long history of this behavior makes that more difficult than usual. He either fixes himself over the next few weeks or his sinks. If he starts going after Hillary professionally he can win. If he keeps up the personal childish insults then he won't. And if he makes one more Judge Curiel level gaffe then he is toast. Nothing at that point would be able to save him.
