Wow, that was a surprise. Former congressman Baron Hill had raised less than $400,000 in his Senatorial Campaign. He withdraws, paving the way for former two term Senator Evan Bayh to attempt a comeback. He already has $9 million in his coffers from when he last ran for the Senate, plus higher name recognition than Baron Hill ever had. Larry Sabato has already reclassified the Indiana race from Republican favored to Tossup. It will take about 10 days for the State Democratic Party to make it official, but except for the obligatory paperwork, it's a done deal.

It's like a chess game. The Republicans get a leg up in Florida when Rubio re-entered the race; now the Democrats counter by drawing their strongest possible candidate to enter the race in Indiana.

With control of the Senate on a knife's edge, both parties are pulling out all of the stops.

Baron Hill withdraws from U.S. Senate race, possibly clearing way for Evan Bayh in Indiana

Really no different than the Republicans did with Marco Rubio in Florida. Bath and Rubio are both seen as their party's best chance at gaining or retaining the seat. Sorry for the redundancy of your point. Consider this a rare conservative supporting a progressive moment.

Florida and Indiana both lose here if the failures of the past are allowed to be the failures of the future.
