As if the GOP was trying to become a bigger farce,

Today, the GOP accepted language from the group most hated by the LGBT community. It endorses conversion therapy.

"The amendment to the platform, which was accepted by the subcommittee, was offered by Tony Perkins, the head of the officially-designated hate group Family Research Council. "

Hollywood couldn't sell this self-destruction of a major party to movie goers. No one would believe it.

The new platform language, which the committee approved, does not actually mention conversion therapy, but says parents should be allowed "to determine the proper treatment or therapy" for their children.

In other words it is okay for parents to put there children through hell because they don't want them to turn out gay, despite fact these "treatments" don't work and cause suicides and life long scars.

Why in 2016 can't the GOP accept gay children? It is a small wonder fewer and fewer younger voters will be associated with a party of old bitter men.

It's almost as if the Republican Party has their heart set on self-destruction. The SCOTUS, whether you agree with their decision or not, did the GOP a big favor by taking the issue off the table and settling the matter. Now Democrats will be able to use this as a talking point once again...

Are they really not looking at public opinion polls on this? Even more and more Republicans are dropping their opposition on this issue, and particularly younger Republicans, like myself, which is the demographic they need to appeal to in order to survive long term, lest they die off with the demographic they insist on pandering to.

Couple this with the fact that even the hard right religious wing of the party rejected uber conservative anti-gay candidates in favor of Donald Trump in the primaries, and I'm truly mystified as a Republican as to what my party is doing... You're right OP, you couldn't make this stuff up... no one would buy it.

Another one of the "pressing issues" for the Republican Party these next four years? Eliminating internet porn as a threat to public health....

Sheeesh......

I agree. I was rather aghast at yesterdays RNC platform to date: porn is bad, coal is clean, and a raped women must bear the child of the rapist.

On the coal issue, I wonder how many of them, on a cold wintry night, put a few shovelfuls of coal in the fireplace and light it up? It used to be quite common. People rather learned their lesson that coal is not suitable for such a purpose in London, in the 1950s, when lots of people were burning coal in their fireplaces during a cold winter, a 'cap' developed over the city (meaning, the fumes settled over the city instead of dissipating), and several thousand people died (the calamity was not realized until after the event).

Seems like they're trying to match the 'quality' of their platform with that of their candidate.

Pick Palin for VP and the circus is definitely back in town!

Yep.

Apparently in 2016 we have to get extremes with either big party.

The GOP platform has SO many planks calling for the GOP's heads to be in everyone else's crotch.

What's up with that?

So the platform doesnt actually say what you were told it said, and rather than just deleting it, you thought it best to double down on the stupidity by summarizing something you just invented?
