I thought that a lot of the appeal of Trump was to "Give the Finger" to the establishment. Picking Pence as VP wouldn't appear to be a move that stays with that theme.

He has to pick Pence. He's the only one who has not said something incredibly insulting about Trump that could be used in an ad. The rest of the gang, including Christie and Gingrich, have made some pretty awful comments that wouldn't look good for the VP running mate to have said.
Gingrich: "The former Georgia congressman, who was a finalist to be named Trump’s running mate, will speak at the convention just days after his private remarks from February surfaced, in which he said Trump is “not a conservative” and speaks at a “fourth-grade level.”
Christie: "We do not need reality TV in the Oval Office right now,” he said. “President of the United States is not a place for an entertainer."

He has been even-keeled on it but it was clear he preferred Cruz. He tried to play both sides in an awkward endorsement.
bernie supporters could care about social issues.....they are about the economy and corruption in politics.
.................and now Bernie supports corruption.
