Donald Trump is looking for a running mate who can be a “fighter skilled in hand-to-hand combat” to help him parry criticism on the campaign trail, and he has narrowed his list to a handful of seasoned politicians.

Mr. Trump, in a telephone interview Tuesday, said his top picks include Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and a couple politicians who haven’t gotten as much attention, including Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions.

The New York businessman has said he wanted a seasoned government leader as a running mate. But in the interview, on the way to events with Mr. Pence in Indiana, Mr. Trump added a new criterion: He wants an attack dog.

That would certainly seem to point toward Christie or Newt.

There will never be an attack dog on stage with Trump.
He's the big dog, and he's just blowing a little smoke at the reporters. And the Republican party, probably, as well.

He's not about allowing any snarling from his running mate. That's his territory alone, period.

Christie has looked more like a sheep dog than an attack dog when he has been on stage with Trump so far.

Usually you choose an attack dog so you can stay above the fray, ie Ike picking Nixon.

Trump is possibly the biggest attack dog candidate we've ever had, next to Andrew Jackson.

He can't really choose Christie because of geography. Those out of the two he is the much better choice.,
