imagine if a SC justice had hollered about how awful al gore was prior to having to resolve the bush v. gore dispute in 2000?

whether you like trump or not, she shouldn't be talking about him.

Quote:
Trump is again escalating the rhetoric, questioning the 83-year-old justice's mental capacity in a tweet in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

The Washington Post and New York Times editorial boards, meanwhile, are siding with Trump -- at least in his calls for Ginsburg to tone it down. The Post says Ginsburg's criticisms, while valid, "were still much, much better left unsaid by a member of the Supreme Court." The Times says Ginsburg "needs to drop the political punditry and name-calling."

As I noted in the current thread about this issue, Justice Ginsburg certainly should recuse herself from hearing any case that involves Donald John Trump and his race for the presidency:

Should a sitting Supreme Court justice comment on a presidental election?

The Supreme Court justices don't have to face many consequences for what they say. About the only penalty Justice Ginsberg would possibly face is the need to recuse herself if the court ever became the decision maker in something like a Trump impeachment.

Since Trump is facing no criminal or political charges, it's highly unlikely that either he or Ginsberg will ever have any sort of confrontation that will involve either of them. Trump can criticize Ginsberg right back in a tit for tat with no official censure.

Other Justices, notably Scalia, former Chief Justice Rehnquist, Hugo Black, and Thurgood Marshall, along with many others over our history, have been very free to voice their views of the candidates in their time.
Ginsburg's comments are not uncommon.

As citizens, they all have the right to say what they want. That's what freedom of speech is all about.

When it comes to a verbal knife fight, my money is on the little old lady in the black robe. All the Justices do is very sharp and keen debate as their job, and Trump is nothing but a rank amateur in comparison to any or all of them.

Thank you SCOTUS Ginsburg. We needed your remarks to see how unethical, corrupt and dysfunctional all three branches of government are and the necessity to clean out the house.
Your mind may be gone but your service to the country highlights that justice isn't blind at all.
The disability payments should be stopped !!!

Yeah, just have president Trump and his children handle the whole government. Great idea Trumpettes.

With comments like the ones in bold I think you helped Hillary win more supporters. You don't want a government, you want a dictatorship.

Meanwhile crooked Hillary goes to the world globe with a rag and wipes Russia off the map like it's a server in her basement.
What a complete idiot and her cult followers lap it up like a kitten at the milk bowl.

I'm glad he is not taking it. Maybe we can make some adjustments to the life tenure of Justices who have shown political partiality.
