It's interesting because the Bush family in general are not Trump fans, yet George P has endorsed. It's just curiosity.
It's not really an endorsement - it's more a "get your thumb out of your mouth" and vote for the Republican Candidate. George P. got 49% of the Hispanic vote in 2014 (which may be a record for any Republican - his first election. He is considered a "rising GOP Star" in Texas - Texas Land Commissioner is a "jump off" position. Rick Perry was the Texas Land Commissioner, before he ran for Lt Governor and then became the Longest serving Governor (14 years) in Texas.
George P. aspires to higher office - he is now the chairman of the Victory Committee (responsibility to elect Republicans in Texas). He is dead in the water with the Texas GOP if he doesn't get behind Trump. I would go further - he needs his entire family to follow in his footsteps for the Republican Party and t o defeat Hillary Clinton.
I don't know about other States, but I do know about Texas -- any GOP politician in Texas that sticks with #neverTrump is done/stick a fork in them. George P. understands that, Ted Cruz does not. Cruz had made a muddy mess of his copybook with the GOP in Texas. An OATH means something here and so does simple good manners. A Temper Tantrum - not so attractive, but memorable.
George P might run for the Senate or perhaps Texas AG or LT Gov if somebody steps up to challenge Cruz in 2018. Cruz is on really, really, really - thin Ice.
George P. as TX Land Commissioner has been up to his neck in problems for the past year and is massively unpopular with both the Cruz and the Trump factions of the GOP here. His mealy mouth non-endorsement of Trump was a hail mary pass that didn't play well with either side. But even if it had worked, it would have been too little, too late.
Fact: The two Presidents named 'Bush' have refused to endorse Trump.
Conservatives: "Big deal! No one cares! What does it matter?"
Fact: The Governor of Florida named 'Bush' has refused to endorse Trump.
Conservatives: "Big deal! No one cares! What does it matter?"
Fact: Some guy named 'Bush' who is the Texas Land Commissioner (huh?) that no one has ever heard of supports Trump.
Conservatives: "OMGl! This is huge! Game changer! Major score for Trump!"
My God, I am going to miss the delusions of the Trumplings when this election is all over!
Like the Bushes? Or the Clintons? Or Chris Christie?
Last time we had two truly honorable men as president back to back was Ford and Carter. And people decided they wanted Presidents with some fight to them after that.
I love the way know-nothings toss the Bushes in with the Clintons when speaking of corruption (and conveniently leave out the Kennedys and FDR, but that's another story).
And Carter was honorable? Tell that to our men who had to suffer because of that man's incompetence and stubbornness. Intransigence is no virtue.
