Not sure whether or not there's anything to the story other than the obvious innuendo. But ... it doesn't look good; therefore someone benefits politically from this.

Huckabee? He's so far behind, that it doesn't benefit him at all.

Obama? He polls well ahead of McCain, and most likely the lead would only grow. He's already demonstrated that he's electable against the Republicans.

That leaves the Clintons. I'm not concluding that they're behind this, but they've got the most to gain by a weakened McCain. The theory being that they (the Clintons) could make an argument to the DNC and the delegates that with a weakened McCain, even they could win a general election.

I guess the reason this story has any point of coming out is that he is a Senator that has been investigated and criticized by the Senate for his role in obstructing the Savings and Loan investigations, he says he is a straight talker, but he by his own admission took responsibility for destroying his first marriage through infidelity, he is a campaign finance reformer who claims lobbyists have too much sway. So if the relationship was strictly professional, and I am assuming it was, travelling with and escorting a lobbyist around to major Washington events is not a good plan for any man. let alone a married one. I myself feel I am in a win win situation. I would like a democrat to win, but I am perfectly comfortable with 60 to 70 percent of MCCains stands on immigration, social issues and justice.

The NYT is reckless in the reporting of this. It's full of insinuation with no substantiation. A lobbyist was visiting him. That's what lobbyists do. Who are the anonymous sources? If you're a reputable paper, or hope to be, you should not publish garbage like this. I don't know if he did this or not, but I certainly will not make up my mind based on this story.

McCain has a reputation as a philanderer...he had many, many affairs and cheated on his wife.

The republicans keep bringing up Bill Clinton's affairs and he isn't even running!

Boy, when the shoe is on the other foot the republicans sure don't want to discuss it!

What double standards !!!

He is NOT "past it" at 71. If that lobbyist wanted something there is NOTHING a lobbyist won't do....including bringing along her own Viagra

I say let's spend 40 million dollars investigating it, ignore anything important that may be happening and fry the guy !

I don’t mind if the NYT published the information, it’s true information. The lady is a lobbyists and has been seen with him numerous times in private situations. Yes lobbyists meet with these political figures but most of the time it’s in an office pushing money under the table. His prior talk about being above political handouts (on the take) is in error and he’s on the take like most political cronies. However now he becomes a hypocrite as well.

Send him a package of Viagra to improve his relationship with his lobbyists. However the ethics committee might find this situation has a little too much “smell” to it.

Even if true, as long as he doesn't hold himself to be a great champion of fidelity and family values and he didn't compromise his duties as a Senator I'd say it's an issue for the McCains to deal with, period.
