My only solace is that I know Johnson won't win, but if he gets enough of the popular vote (5%) then the Libertarian party is eligible for matching funds in 2020 and this may encourage better 3rd party candidates as well as give them some needed resources to get traction and name recognition. As far as I'm concerned 2016-2020 is just a complete loss of an election at this point, trying to look at the longer term.
True and a good point. I worry about the Surpreme Court too though. Kind of wish I didn't live in a "purple" area of a swing state. I think that knowledge adds to my agnst.
I and many people I have spoken with believe that the current candidates for president are absolutely awful in record and personality, to some extent, even Gary Johnson (L).
Is it time to decide your vote based on party values and objectives over candidate controversies?
Or is campaigning based on an opponent's contemptible behaviour going to sway more informed voters?
Anyone else find, as an independent that people assume a lot of stuff? For example, I usually don't speak about politics and my liberal friends assume I'm liberal and my conservative friends assume I'm conservative. I think it's because I simply listen, absorb, and make up my mind and keep it to myself.
It happened just today where a very liberal friend of mine put something insulting towards independent/undecided voters on his Facebook page. Basically implied if you are undecided that you were stupid. I said something to him about it, that the way to attract the undecideds was not to insult, but to win them over. His reply was that he wasn't really insulting anyone because he "knew" all his friends were liberal Democrats like him and were voting for Clinton. And this is a guy I've known for 10 years! And my Trump supporting friends and relatives make the same assumptions.
I just find it interesting how people assume. And I admit, I was a bit surprised at the personal attack based on my need to consider all sides and think and not see things as do black and white. Of course, he doesn't know he insulted me. And in the end, I don't care. I think of politics as temporary insanity for most people and give them a pass.
I just look at who is going to represent the ISSUES that I care about?
It's not Trump. It's not Johnson. It's not Stein.
Representing the issues and taking action towards those issues are two different things.
