Because there are a lot of people trapped in the Right Wing Echo Chamber. These are people who believe a majority of America thinks exactly like them. This is why so many of them were shocked when Obama was re-elected. They thought their Kansas City exurb (where there were no Obama yard signs to be found) was representative of America.
They are going to learn (again) the hard way. There is a New Silent Majority. And it is composed largely of women, educated Whites and minorities.
