My wife is a Berkeley-educated liberal and refused to support Hillary, throwing her support behind Sanders. For her it was about integrity and character. Hillary is dishonest. It's that simple. When the reports on the DNC surfaced, she and my daughter made it clear they would not vote for her.
I think the pollsters made a huge mistake in treating the process as an "either/or" proposition. My wife would never vote for Trump. Clinton assumed people would choose her regardless. The voters are smarter than the politicians think.
Well if your wife wants to complain about climate change, equal pay, she can look in the mirror.
I don't want to hear anything from the progressives who went Bernie or bust, or BLM supporters who stayed home.
While there is no one single reason, I see 2 things.
First, Trump had far more grassroots supports than anyone realized. People who work with their hands and work hard but see the country around them getting worse and worse. Maybe they usually don't vote. They wanted some change and all the PC and government intrusion was just getting to be too much. They may not fully buy into Trump, but they hope for change in the status quo.
Second, Hilary simply wasn't a likable person. Even inside her own party. Some of the counties that usually tip the election in traditional battleground states for the Democrats had very low voter turnout. They still had the right percentages for her, but not enough people in her party thought enough of her to even vote for her. I mean, half her most ardent "supporters" left her HQ long before the election was truly decided and she refused to even come and thank those who stayed. I think that describes her to a 'T'.
you are dancing around why she lost, the big thing, no real message from her other than "vote for me because trump is a jackass". trump on the other hand had a positive message of make america great again, and he laid out in thumbnail sketches how to do that.
to your second point, hillary failed to campaign aggressively in democrat strongholds, like michigan, ohio, and wisconsin. she made token visits there, and just expected that she had those places in her pocket. same with pennsylvania, she basically dismissed the people in the state because democrats pretty much owned the states. trump went in there and connected with the people, and the effort paid off.
1. she a witch with a B
2. she isnt smart
3 she has cankles
4 she only got nomination because she defended BILL
5 nobody likes her
6 she is corrupt
7 she doesnt stand for anything but making herself rich
8 she is a criminal
9 etc etc etc!
10 she blew up the middle east
11 she had a toy red button that failed
12.. she didnt answer the 4am benghazi call-also hired terrorists to guard the embassy.
13. Image of being weak. The falling down incidents and lying about it. Head bopping is very strange
Look, how many of you tolerate liars in your personal lives? How many of your friends have told you a lie and expected you to believe it? Did you keep that person in your life? You may have for a little while but at some point you wised up it and got them out of your life.
Last night you saw America wise up!
What a great point, she lied repeatedly and even more when you consider the National Security issues & past behavior of theft from the White House. You are correct, we don't tolerate that in our personal lives.
Let's take it a step further - the main complaint (from Clinton INC & supporters) is Mr Trump's 'crass language'(let's remember that none of the women who claimed "assaults" have ever proven anything & then went POOF when the damage was done), multi-wives, money, yada-yada-yada. Do we know people in our own lives that might use some crass language? - Do we banish them because of that? Do we know any who had multiple wives/husbands or might have been dated a lot of people? Do we banish them from our lives because of that? We might disapprove of some behavior, but do we blame them for transgressions of that nature that happened decades ago? The claims of "unfit" were always a joke about a man that has built the business empire that Mr Trump has built.
Donald Trump was elected because he understood what was happening in this Nation - the ignored people, the FED-UP people, the people who had been taken advantage of. He has never lived in the Bubble of the Elite Politicians and Elite Media - he may be rich, but he talks to and is interested in ..... the common Joe/Jane.
As Michael Moore said - Trump "gets it". The people have been begging for real Change for years.
They found a voice in Donald Trump. Those elite wouldn't even listen to the one person in their world that "got it".
In Pa they literally waited until the very last possible minute to put up signs for Hillary. In 2012 they said that Pa was never in play so they never put up any Obama signs. I think that sends a message that they won't spend money promoting their candidate and people lose enthusiasm.

You continue the Boolean lie.
One can care about climate change or equal rights and NOT support a dishonest human. They are mutually exclusive.
She's unlikable, is probably the poster child of the government that people have increasingly realized is corrupt, has a public and private opinion on issues, and offered the same old, same old. Many people showed up to vote for Trump because they liked him and waited hours to see him at his rallies. If they're waiting hours just to see you, they're going to wait hours to vote for you. This is a stunning loss for her and is the end of her political career.
Exit polls showed both Trump and Hillary with large disapproval ratings. But, the most telling was that 85% of those polled said they were disillusioned with government and wanted change. Hillary, as a lifetime politician, was seen as more of the same. Trump, while 60% said he was unfit to govern, isn't a DC insider. That's why he won.
