The Constitution enumerates the powers of the executive branch. I do not read anything about "mandates".
In the Constitution, I do not read anything about "popular vote", nor, as an aside, do I read anything about political parties.
As such, when it comes to passing new legislation and approving new spending, as is the case with any president, Mr. Trump will have to deal with Congress on a case-by-case, representative-by-representative, senator-by-senator basis.
The Senate has formidable filibuster powers.
Checks and balances, then.
I think we will be as fine as we can reasonably expect to be in a society among humans as long as we live by the rule of law, as long as we live by the Constitution.
Problems, serious problems, arise when factions operate illegally, oh I don't know, like perpetrate illegal military action abroad or even domestically, or refuse to execute certain domestic laws, or connive at illegal voting.
Sweet Jesus on a bicycle! How many time must we explain the facts to increasingly desperate and silly liberals?
1. Trump is going to appoint 4 Supreme Court Justices.
2. Trump has a majority in the Senate that might be expanded to super-majority next time out due to a favorable election cycle.
3. Trump has a majority in the House.
4. Trump has 33 Governors on his side against the paltry Democratic 18.
5. Trump will have 69 of 99 state legislatures in lock step with his actions.
6. Trump can undo most of Obama's legacy merely by a stroke of the pen, since so much was done by executive order. Obamacare is wildly unpoular and was already collapsing on its own before he got there.
7. The media no longer has the power to prop up Democrats because the internet has largely levelled the playing field.
8. Republicans are doing better with minorities than they have in a long time.
9. Trump has only to do what he said he'd do an send illegals home to dramatically reduce democratic power further.
10. World trends are for austerity and nationalism, and agaisnt Socialism and globalism.
and
11. LONG TERM DEMOGRAPHIC TRENDS ACTUALLY FAVOR REPUBLICANS, NOT DEMOCRATS.
Get ready for a long, long time in the wildnerness. Your treacherous, condescending, criminal party has earned every second.
Excellent analysis! And lol@sweet Jesus on a bicycle!
Funny how the popular vote was never mentioned until Hillary lost by landslide.
Here's the thing. Trump has defeated every single politician who has gone up against him. As a result there is no politician in DC who will challenge him right now as they don't want those cross hairs on them.
i.e. Trump will get everything he wants. Anyone who thinks different, isn't thinking. Then again they probably supported Hillary.
Do you realize there were more than 2 people running? Nearly 67 Million rejected Clinton.
It does not matter how many were running. Clinton got the most votes. Trump came in second, over two million back. He can claim no mandate and even his legitimacy is in question - especially with the suspicious results in the upper midwest.
I am beginning to believe Trump did not actually win this election. We let Bush get away with stealing it. Trump should not be allowed to--he's too dangerous. It's possible that fat ass didn't win.
As Clinton's popular vote lead increases, there are 'voting anomalies' coming to light. The votes in battleground states do not at all sync with exit polling and the states using electronic voting have a much larger disparity of votes than other states.
This election is starting to look stolen and there is a growing amount of people who believe that.
"...A growing number of academics and activists are calling for US authorities to fully audit or recount the 2016 presidential election vote in key battleground states, in case the results could have been skewed by foreign hackers...
"...Stein launched an online fundraising page seeking donations toward a $2.5m fund she said was needed to request reviews of the results in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin..."
...Stein said she was acting due to “compelling evidence of voting anomalies” and that data analysis had indicated “significant discrepancies in vote totals” that were released by state authorities..."
