Obama & Gays
Seeing Mayor Gavin Newsom on the national stage with former president Bill Clinton on Monday night is a reminder of how political winds can change. On the eve of the biggest night of the presidential primaries, Newsom shared the spotlight during a town hall meeting staged and broadcast on cable TV and satellite radio by the Hillary Rodham Clinton campaign.
But just four years ago, current Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is said to have declined to have his picture taken in San Francisco with Newsom, who was then at the center of a national uproar over his decision to allow same-sex marriage in San Francisco. "I gave a fundraiser, at his (Obama's) request at the Waterfront restaurant," said former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown. "And he said to me, he would really appreciate it if he didn't get his photo taken with my mayor. He said he would really not like to have his picture taken with Gavin." ...

So? Both Clinton and Obama oppose same sex marriage.
Four years ago? It's 2008 and a great many Gays are supporting Obama:

Sure was, but it's still going on and Hillary Clinton voted to authorize it. She did so thinking it was the political expedient thing to do. She failed us all.
As I've already said, both are against same sex marriage . Therefore both would be against Newsom's position, so what's the point? |

The title of this thread should be "Obama and Newsom", not Obama and Gays. Obama declined to have his picture taken with Newsom, not with gay people. Obama's deputy campaign manager is gay.
I would say neither Clinton nor Obama are very "pro-gay" if they don't support gay marriage. The main difference is Obama's wish to repeal DOMA, but he still only supports civil unions only.

If he is against his stand then he should also be against donnie mcclurkin who is a so called ex-gay and now preaches against gays....but Obama associates himself with Donnie and attended functions with him as recent as last year. |
