I guess you haven't been keeping up. Yes, there are many ward-heeling black politicians in Chicago who resented Obama's rise in state and federal government. They had been in office for years and did not have his background, drive or experience. And, yes, he did have to step over some black folks to get elected -- but this is not cheating. Lou Jones and Madeline Haithcock were elderly black pols who looked on their jobs as sinecures and never really had strong opposition for their positions. Our sainted Harold Washington said politics ain't bean bag.
Emil Jones did not create Obama or Obama's run for the senate. Many folks don't know or remember Emil being beaten by Jesse Jackson, Jr. for Congress but I do. So he is hardly a kingmaker. Emil has known Obama since before Barack was in any political office and just is happy that someone close to him is doing so well.
Examining Obama's history in the IL legislature and his relations with black and whites will not reveal any smoking guns, I can assure you.

Obama has shouted from the roof tops he is different
he is not "old Washington"
he is just like the rest of them
he will do anything, say anything, step on anyone to get what he wants
he is a snake in the grass
but he will not make it
because if has to come up against John McCain he will never win
he is too cocky and he thinks he is already president
what a joke!
I loved SNL last night the "OBAMA FILES"
I laughed my ass off
because he was screwing Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton
oh yeah
just wait Obama's house of cards will fall

I like listening to Barack Obama because his thoughts and ideas are uplifting. He offers up substantive avenues of change and hope. Obama doesn't need to damn others to raise himself up.
If only others could follow that lead. If those who engage in damning rhetoric and mud-slinging politics realized that it only reflects back upon themselves in a very negative way, they might want to change. They might try to be cooperative rather than combative. But up until recently, "Karl Rove" dirty-politics has worked. Up until recently. People are finally catching on that those who sling mud are the dirtiest, and their mud-slinging is an attempt at diversion.
I don't perceive Barack Obama as 'cocky.' He is intelligent, thoughtful, well spoken, highly educated, articulate about the issues, and receptive to the ideas of others. He does not appear to be combative by nature. That trait appears to irk those who are combative, because they can't 'get a rise out of him.' However, I have no doubt that he is tough as nails and strong minded. He has shown that over and over again.
I also believe he has good judgment, and can be trusted. For me to feel that way about a politician in this day and age is -- new.
Who will prove victorious this fall remains to be seen. No one now knows.

I understand, from Judicialwatch.org, that this is one thing they haven't been able to examine: Obama's papers from the IL legislature. Like Clinton, Obama Withholds Records | Judicial Watch Does Obama plan to turn these over? Evidentally, the media would like access to them too.

We have not seen all of his past!
$Obama$ is the new Washington, this time they won't have to ask you to take something from you, they will just steal it from you. He tells the fools he is going to fix Washington, but he has yet to tells us what it is he is going to fix!!
All words, NO ACTION. Maybe it was the drugs he has taken that has effected him.

As Tucker pointed out on MSNBC Friday evening in some of Obama's pandering to the crowd. In one of Obama's recent speeches, it may have been his Bill Cosby themed speech or one shortly after (and sorry I couln't find the clip on youtube), he talked about knowing how some people in the crowd eat Popeye's for breakfast, and something to the effect of "I know some of y'all do it."
But the problem is that this isn't him, and it's not how he speaks. He grew up in Hawaii and went to Harvard. There are many more examples of him speaking to groups and using similar ways of saying that 'I'm one of you, even though I'm not." Is it genius or disingenuous? I guess it depends on if you realize it, and think you're being taken for a fool, or if he can indeed convince 51% of voters that he is one of them.

I don't perceive him as cocky either. I DO perceive him as deceitful. I don't believe his judgment is that good since he's made lots of mistakes in his career (which he says he "goofed" or "hit the wrong button" or did something "boneheaded"). He IS basically running on one anti-war speech he gave in 2002 and that is his claim to "good judgment."
Since he has been running for new offices for the last 12 years (6 different political campaigns), I have yet to see what good he will do when he finally settles into a job and has to do the work. I'm afraid he may enjoy running for President more than BEING President.
Since he heads the Senate Foreign Relations committee that handles Europe, why hasn't he held any meetings since January 2007? Well, he says it's because he's been running for President so he hasn't had time. Excuse me? That committee is part of the job he is currently being paid to do so that excuse doesn't wash with me. If Afghanistan is as important as he says it is, he should be doing something about it because it falls under his committee responsibilities.

Trevor92,
I think he is just very polished and practiced -- and I think he realizes, like all politicians, you don't have to do anything you say once you get into office. The whole goal is just to WIN!
I'm sure he'll be a huge disappointment to people who thought he was something new. "Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."
