Black would be more historic considering almost or perhaps 100% of developed countries have never had a black president. Female on the other hand would only be historic if it were anybody else but HILLARY

I'm still holding out for an old, white, male myself. History be damned.

Judging from the number of nutjobs here who apparently feel it's perfectly acceptable to call women the b-word and insist that women who speak up and speak out are "on the rag," it's clear that electing a woman as president and commander-in-chief would be more historic and might finally confront these Neanderthal attitudes in our country. These same nutjobs wouldn't even TRY to call a black person the N-word here (and for good reason!) but, for some reason, they believe that sexist insults are absolutely fine and precious few people take them to task for it.

What would be historic is if we actually had a Real Conservative running for President instead of two socialist and a New World Order Neo Con.
Taking sex and race out of the picture this entire 2008 Presidential election will truly be historic, historic in ways we don't want to think of.

After 20 years of Clinton / Bush and now this line of whatchamaycallits, they need to change the final Presidential closeout from "God Bless America" to "God Save America"

Yes. Completely. Are you from the US? Whether or not it is legit mulattos are DEFINITELY considered black and almost always consider themselves black.

Given US history around the issue of race, I think a black president would be more remarkable.

I'm amazed by the comments about Obama not being "really black". Uh, how many slave descendants don't have white ancestry? Isn't the history around here that the slightest trace of black blood made a person "black" and subject to all the discrimination that went with that, even if they looked white? Aren't African American (or whatever you want to call them) voters supporting him in droves? Presumably those voters don't think this guy is an imposter. Personally, I think he's great. I think Hillary would be an OK president too, but I don't feel a need to see her win because she's a woman. We women have pretty much won the equality battle in my lifetime, anyway.

I don't have a vote, by the way.

The issue is that Barack does not have slave ancestry...African-American slave ancestry.

If Obama wins and our democracy is destroyed, that would be historic. That is history I don't want to see written. Let's keep our eyes on what we should be doing here. We should be choosing the best person for president--not trying to make history.

Exactly!! I couldn't agree more. This election should be decided on the issues. There are two vastly different paths proposed for our nation, even if you have to choose between the lesser of two evils. But it shouldn't be about trying to make history.

A black president, most definitely. So many countries have already had female heads of state: Germany, Great Britain, and even Pakistan and Indonesia. I know of no country where a member of an historically oppressed and enslaved minority race has risen to the level of president.
