This is totally off the national media radar, but the April 4 election in this small Chicago suburb may be decided on some comments over a year ago by the incumbent. Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz comments on gay marriage, unwed parents | abc7chicago.com. Some businesses in town have closed, most notably a large supermarket, but that has since been replaced. With few other major issues, and the typically low turnout for local elections, it could be the deciding factor.

I wasn't watching the entire video speech, but the comments about out of wedlock birth aren't controversial to me. I'd imagine of the SSM comments were truly distasteful that there'd be a true write-up about it. Could be wrong, though.

This is simply true. People would like to pretend it is no big deal but I assure you it is indeed. I taught and children born to unwed mothers struggled more academically and had more behavior problems. Research has repeatedly indicated the type problems that interfere with being successful, whether at home or in the community, will follow them all their lives.

"Our nation is in a moral crisis, and it's something that needs to be talked about more. Out of wedlock birthrate is just crazy high compared to our history," Lentz said.
